Deputy Director of Research - Qualitative
Musonda Simwinga, PhD, is a Community Engagement Lead and Senior Social Scientist at Zambart. With over 15 years of experience in tuberculosis (TB) and HIV research within high-burden settings, he has extensive expertise both as a social scientist and as a specialist in community engagement.
Dr. Simwinga has extensive experience in qualitative research, particularly for interdisciplinary and implementation science research. In this regard, Dr. Simwinga collaborates closely with diverse stakeholders, including community-based stakeholders such as the community advisory boards, to generate evidence that informs the adaptation of interventions and enhances understanding of community experiences in research.
His academic interests also encompass the exploration of power dynamics between researchers and community members. He is particularly interested in how methodologies such as co-design and community-based participatory research mediate these dynamics and promote inclusive participation. A key aspect of his work involves building capacity among community members to become equal partners in the research process, enabling them to contribute meaningfully to research priority-setting and strengthening accountability within research relationships.
