Prof. Virginia Bond
Head- Social Science Unit
Virginia (Ginny) Bond is a social anthropologist who conducts transdisciplinary public health research focusing on health-related stigma, community-based interventions, and TB, and HIV, as well as other urgent public health issues includingCOVID-19, WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene), schistosomiasis, population mobility and climate change. Her areas of expertise include household resilience, health-related stigma, social science components of large-scale trials and broad brush surveys (a rapid qualitative assessment approach).
She is currently the Head of Social Science Unit at Zambart and a Trustee of Zambart. She is employed by LSHTM to be based at Zambart and is Professor of Anthropology and Public Health Policy at LSHTM within the Department of Global Health and Development, Public Health and Policy Faculty. Since 1999, she has played a key leadership role in shaping Zambart into a robust African research institution and now contributes to professional support, social science, and equitable partnership strategies at both Zambart and LSHTM. She contributes to research capacity strengthening through distance learning teaching, PhD students and Master students, and through writing and social science training
