Internal Audit
The Zambart Internal Audit Department plays a critical role in upholding the integrity, transparency, and accountability of our organization. The work of the department is guided by the Zambart Internal Audit Charter and the Global Internal Audit Standards. As a public health research organization, we are committed to the highest standards of ethical conduct and operational excellence. The Internal Audit team supports this mission by providing independent, objective assurance and advisory services designed to add value and improve our operations.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:

- Risk Management & Controls: Evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls and risk management systems across all our research studies, research activities, and administrative functions.
- Compliance Assurance: Ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures, donor requirements, legal regulations, and ethical standards, helping to safeguard the Zambart’s reputation and funding.
- Operational Efficiency: Identify opportunities to enhance operational processes, financial management, and resource utilization in alignment with our mission and strategic goals.
- Fraud Prevention & Detection: Monitor for signs of fraud, misconduct, or irregularities and support proactive measures to prevent financial and reputational risks.
- Advisory & Insight: Provide recommendations to management and the Board of Directors based on its audit findings and emerging risks, contributing to continuous improvement and organizational learning.
Our Internal Audit Department has a dual reporting role, directly to the Audit and Risk Board Committee and the Executive Director for management purposes, ensuring independence and objectivity in all its assessments. This structure allows us to maintain trust with our stakeholders and continuously strive for excellence in our research and community impact.
