Zambart recently hosted a Dedication and Appreciation Luncheon at Southern Sun in Lusaka to honour its outgoing Board Chair, Professor Charles Michelo, and Board Director, Lydia Sameta Chilumba, in recognition of their distinguished service and contributions to the organisation.

The event brought together Board members and senior management to reflect on a period of notable institutional progress and to acknowledge the leadership that has helped shape Zambart’s trajectory over the years.

In her remarks, Executive Director, Dr. Kwame Shanaube, paid tribute to Professor Michelo’s six-year tenure as the organisation’s inaugural Board Chair, highlighting a period defined by resilience, strategic growth, and strengthened governance structures.

“Your leadership has been instrumental in shaping not only the direction of the organisation, but also the strength of its governance systems. Your impact has been both deep and enduring, laying a solid foundation for continued growth, scientific excellence, and long-term institutional sustainability.”
— Dr. Kwame Shanaube

Board Director Lydia Sameta Chilumba was also recognised for her contributions since joining the Board in 2023, particularly in strengthening internal systems through the establishment and leadership of the Audit and Risk Committee.

In his farewell remarks, Professor  Michelo reflected on his tenure with pride and optimism, highlighting the importance of active, forward-looking governance and future growth opportunities for the institution.

“The Board is not passive—it must shape and sharpen the vision. It must keep asking: Where next? What to lead? How to remain impactful? As Zambart looks ahead, there is a clear opportunity to expand into areas such as discovery science, digital health, machine learning, and emerging diseases—spaces that will define both national relevance and future impact.”
— Professor Charles Michelo

He further emphasised that Zambart’s strength lies not only in the quality of its scientific work, but also in the clarity, accountability, and courage demonstrated in its governance.

The luncheon served as both a moment of appreciation and a reaffirmation of Zambart’s commitment to strong leadership, institutional excellence, and sustained impact in public health research.
