Zambart has launched the Mugwilizano initiative, a community-led project funded by the French Embassy in Zambia, that aims to co-develop a sustainable nutritional support program for individuals with drug-sensitive TB, including those co-infected with HIV.

The launch event was graced by His Excellency, Mr. Thomas Rossignol, Ambassador of France to Zambia, who emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in tackling health challenges.

Zambart Executive Director expressed gratitude to the French Embassy for their support, highlighting that funding enables the piloting of innovative approaches to addressing malnutrition among TB patients.
Malnutrition is a significant concern among TB patients, exacerbating treatment outcomes, affecting productivity, and negatively impacting overall well-being. Consultations with community stakeholders and healthcare staff at Kanyama Level 1 Hospital revealed alarming rates of food insecurity and undernutrition among TB patients, underscoring the need for targeted interventions.

Mugwilizano Project aims to reduce acute malnutrition among TB patients, strengthen food security and improve nutritional awareness through a locally sustainable model by engaging local communities and leveraging partnerships, the project seeks to develop effective solutions to improve health outcomes and enhance the quality of life for TB patients. With its focus on community empowerment and collaboration, the Mugwilizano Project has the potential to make a lasting impact on the lives of thousands of Zambians affected by TB.
