
Zambart, recently won the esteemed EDCTP Prize at the just ended Global Health Forum in Kigali, Rwanda. The award recognizes Zambart’s outstanding contributions to global public health research.
In her acceptance speech, Zambart Executive Director, Dr. Kwame Shanaube expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Global Health EDCTP3 Joint Undertaking, the African and European Research Partnership on Infectious Diseases, and the funders of this prestigious award.
The Executive Director highlighted Zambart’s 35 years of impactful public health research, noting the organization’s diverse portfolio of 23 research studies valued at USD 21.6 million. Zambart’s expertise spans large-scale trials, epidemiological studies, randomized controlled trials, and implementation research.
Zambart has made significant contributions to TB/HIV policy and practice at national and global levels, influencing global health policies and demonstrating its ability to deliver impactful, multi-country randomized controlled trials.
Zambart’s success is attributed to strategic partnerships and collaborations with renowned institutions and funders. The organization is also deeply invested in capacity development, collaborating with regional and international institutions to strengthen research capabilities.
Through partnerships, Zambart has hosted and mentored numerous students and research fellows, contributing to the next generation of public health researchers.
Dr. Shanaube concluded by expressing openness to exploring networks and collaborations, reaffirming Zambart’s mission to contribute to global public health policy and practice through high-quality health research.
Announcing the winners, Dr Henning Gädeke, Chair of the EDCTP Association Board, praised the significant public health impact of Zambart over many years: “It’s a perfect example of how long-term cooperation of African and European partners can lead to results that really make a difference in people’s lives.”
