Zambart has had a long standing affiliation with the Ministry of Health since starting out as a small research unit under collaboration between the University of Zambia and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). In Lusaka district, this relationship is further enhanced by the strong ties we have formed with the District Health Office. Together we have maintained a strong relationship over matters related to public health and the overall wellbeing of our communities.

In Chawama township of Lusaka, Zambart has conducted various activities related to past and current projects. As early as 2005 the ZAMSTAR study began conducting activities at the area hospital, followed by PopART from 2013-2018.

In November 2018, our newer study entitled: Tuberculosis Reduction through expanded antiretroviral therapy and TB screening (TREATS) began. This study seeks to provide rigorous population-based evidence of the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of a scaled-up combination TB/HIV intervention on TB outcomes. TREATS is conducting study related work at various sites, one of those sites is the Chawama First Level Hospital. The hospital kindly accommodated the TREATS team, working at the hospital since April 2019.

Due to increased demand for space at the hospital, Zambart responded by building a new addition to house the TREATS study for the duration of the study. This is in line with our core belief as an organisation that …..

The new building was commissioned on xx by Dr Mwila, representing Dr Consity Mwale, District Health Director, and Dr Shula the Chawama First Level Hospital Superintendent. Zambart was represented by Dr Kwame Shanaube, country principle investigator for TREATS and Dr Modupe Amofa-Sekyi, Study Manager: incidence of infection cohort TREATS study.
