This a multi-country, epidemiologic study to assess the interferon gamma release assay (IGRA) positivity, and to build capacity to conduct a TB vaccine efficacy study, in populations with a high TB disease burden. The study is , sponsored by the Bill & Melinda Gates Medical Research Institute and study aims to recruit 8000 participants in about 14 countries.
The main objective of this study is to assess Interferon Gamma release assay (IGRA) positivity and to build capacity to conduct a Tuberculosis (TB) vaccine efficacy study in populations with high TB disease burden. The first stage of the study is not conducting any new interventions nor administering any investigational product.
The Zambart study site is found at Kanyama General Hospital with participants being recruited from the Kanyama community. Enrolment commenced on 07July2022 with 159 participants enrolled. We are currently following up these participants for a maximum period of 3 month with 6 monthly and yearly site visits with 2 monthly remote phone call contacts.
